Welcome to our inclusive community of crafters.

Did you see the Easter bunny? I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. We’ve had baby chicks hatch at Coop de Casa Acevedo. It’s so exciting and such fun for my kiddos to see the little cuties cheeping and peeping around. New mommies and babies always remind me of why I love crafting so much; I think we fiber-folk are natural-born creators; we create homes out of houses, meals out of ingredients, and FOs out of bits of string! Knitting, crocheting, weaving, whatever YOUR passion for creating is, come share it with us at Yarn and You. Because without YOU, it’s just yarn.

The Shift/Night Shift KAL @YAY

It’s KAL time! Have you knit an Andrea Mowry pattern yet? I missed The Fade fad, but I loved knitting The Shift so much, I’ve already casted on a second one. The Shift by Andrea Mowry is a ‘fiddle free cowl’ knitted flat and then seamed up the back. Night Shift (also by Andrea) is a much bigger shawl version. (photo credits Andrea Mowry/Drea Renee Knits) Both use the mosaic knitting technique. If you haven’t tried this super simple way of doing color work, you really should. Though 2 colors are attached at a time, you only ever knit with one or the other. No carrying floats, and no tangled yarns. And, so much of the pattern is slipped stitches, it feels like cheating! Originally written for 3 skeins of long color repeating yarns in DK or sport weight, but there are so many gorgeous versions on Ravelry and IG using three to six colors and just about any weight of fiber you can imagine. My first one used one ball of Schoppel Woolle Crazy and two skeins of Feederbrook Farms Entropy DK.

My second one (still on the needles) is using 3 skeins of Debbie Bliss Rialto Luxury Sock. I wanted an even lighter version than my DK weight version (this is Texas, after all) so I’m using fingering/sock this time.

Different weights will impact your yardage and the finished size but it will be fabulous in any yarn you choose. Come and go any time from 1:00 to 6:00 pm on Saturday May 4 and while you’re here enjoy the Farmersville Chamber of Commerce Cinco De Mayo Salsa contest. Post your in-progress pics on Instagram with the hashtags #TheShiftatYAY or #NightShiftatYAY. There will be prizes for participation. Come join the fun! Like us? Rate us on Google!

Mark you calendars now because your North Texas LYSOs have SO. MUCH. FUN. planned for the 2019 North Texas Yarn Crawl from September 13-22. What’s a Yarn Crawl? It’s like a pub crawl, but with YARN, ya’ll! I can hardly wait. See you soon, BFFs! (Best Fiber Friends)
